Science. Perspective. Authority.
Berkeley Engineering And Research (BEAR) is a group of experienced engineers and scientists applying knowledge and skill to both solve problems for clients and develop new technologies.
Our team of experts is well equipped to investigate or create new technologies and products, build support for your firm's position, or deliver an authoritative presentation of relevant scientific facts in language you can understand.
Science. The word is derived from the Latin "scientia" meaning knowledge. According to Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary, the definition of science is "knowledge attained through study or practice," or "knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, esp. as obtained and tested through scientific method [and] concerned with the physical world." Engineering is the application of science to analyze and determine the cause of failures, solve problems and make life safer and more enjoyable. BEAR engineers use the scientific method in all our projects from determining what a crane failed to designing medical devices to assist in surgery.
Perspective. BEAR approaches all of our client's cases from a perspective of multiple scientific disciplines. BEAR engineers collaborate across specialties to deliver real world answers. A simple example? Investigating the cause of a fire considering only thermodynamics and heat transfer lacks perspective without understanding the mechanical failure of electrical equipment that caused high localized temperatures.
Authority. BEAR's work is trusted in the courtroom, the board room, and the real world based on hundreds of successful court cases and decades of experience solving engineering problems for a large variety of industries and government agencies. One of our projects (earthquake dampers for the Golden Gate Bridge) received the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award for 2007 by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
